Our Farm

Our Farm

At Arrowcrest Jerseys our mission is to produce rich, delicious nutrient dense, easy to digest raw milk off of chemical free soil.

Our ground has been in pasture with no fertilizer other than cow manure put on the ground in 30 years. Healthy food comes from healthy soils with a lot of earthworms and soil microorganisms enriching the soils.

Healthy soil helps to produce lush vegetation for our herd to be grass fed/grain free as well as completely sustainable. We are not certified organic, but still practice organic principles and are herbicide and pesticide free.

When possible we allow the calves to nurse directly from their mothers in the pasture with the cows. We want to make sure that each calf is able to drink the natural antibodies produced by their mother called colostrum. It’s crucial that each calf is able to receive these antibodies for their health and for building their immune system. We also run a closed herd for the animals, which means we do not introduce cattle from other farms to our herd that could possibly introduce outside pathogens. We care about the safety and health of our animals, and want our cows to be happy, healthy, and well fed!

Here we love Jerseys. Our entire dairy herd that we milk is made up of Jerseys. We like this breed’s gentle demeanor as well as their big expressive eyes. Jerseys also produce higher butterfat (cream) and protein in their milk than other dairy breeds as a whole. It’s the cream content of the milk that is used in creating dairy favorites like butter, ice cream, and cheese.

We have been working to improve the levels of protein and cream in our herd’s milk over the last 35 years. In the summer the cream content levels drop a little to 4-5% (whole milk at the store is 3.25%). In the winter however, our cream content soars up to an exceptional 8%.
